Questions
What is this site for?
It lets a Sacred Harp singer write down the songs they would like sung at their funeral, and lets anyone read those wishes afterwards. It is a record of what somebody asked for. It is not a will, and nobody is obliged to sing anything.
How do I sign in?
Enter your email address and we send you a link. There is no password. Your email address is how you sign in, so keep access to it. If you lose access, write to admin@partinghand.com and the address can be changed by hand.
Can I make a page for somebody else?
No. Each person gets one page with one list, and it is theirs. Please do not make a page for anybody else, living or dead.
Who can see my page?
Nobody, until you publish it. Once it is published anyone can read it, and it may appear in search engine results for your name. You can take it out of public view at any time, and your web address is kept for you. The privacy page lists what is shown and what never is.
What should I not put on my page?
Anything that is not yours to publish, or anything about another person who has not agreed to it.
What is a trusted contact?
The one person you nominate to tell us when you have died. We write to them once to say you have named them. We do not check that the address is right or that the person agreed, so ask them first and check what you typed.
What happens when somebody reports a passing?
Anyone may report that a singer has died, but only that singer's trusted contact is sent a link to confirm it. Confirming turns the page into a memorial and locks it: the songs stay exactly as they were left, and nobody can change them afterwards.
What if a page is locked by mistake?
Write to admin@partinghand.com. It can be undone.
Is this the only place I should write my wishes down?
No. The site may be unavailable, may lose data, and may one day stop. Tell the people who will be there, too.
Can I delete my page?
You can take it out of public view whenever you like. Records are otherwise deleted only where the law requires it; see the privacy page.
